By Ann Louise

The number of cases of prostate enlargement is getting higher as of today. This is because in our modernized lifestyle, more men are getting prone to having this problem. And more men is taking this for granted because they feel embarrass confessing it to a healthcare professional. Thus, they regret to treat the problem and wait for it to become worst. How do we recognize prostate enlargement and its symptoms? Are there any remedies for it? Let's discuss prostate problems particularly prostate enlargement symptoms and management in this article.

Prostate problems are one of the most common dilemmas men may experience when they are older. The most common of these problems is prostate enlargement which could later progress into prostate cancer if not managed early. Prostate enlargement is due to the accumulated hormones inside the prostate over time. Hormone accumulation could be normal at first but when the prostate starts to swell because of too much build-up, it could start troublesome symptoms.

Prostate enlargement symptoms are always associated with urine excretion. They are dribbling of urine, difficulty starting a urine stream, thinning of the urine stream, and pain while voiding. All of these are effects of the compression of urethra which is the passageway of the urine for excretion. The urethra is just located posterior of the prostatic gland which is can be compressed and blocked when the gland enlarges.

Prostate enlargement symptoms could progress into urinary tract infection and could later turn into kidney failure if not managed early. This is the reason why you can see patients with prostate enlargement wearing catheters all the time. These catheters (or hollow tubes) are used to excrete the urine with ease and without pain.

Management for prostate enlargement consists of anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics, pain relievers, antibiotics and surgical procedures. But these interventions don't guarantee the prevention of reoccurrence of the problem. What a man needs to do is to eliminate the factors that could contribute to the progression or reoccurrence of the problem. They are obesity, hormonal imbalances, sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise, salty diet and alcohol abuse.
