Others have commented on the terrific keyboard. That really is the only reason to buy this thing if you are a Linux user. Keyboard is sufficient, with quiet keys. Also you'll need it to run, assuming u upgrade to Home Edition 7, instead of standard STARTER Version 7, so there's another $80.
I bought this computer a few weeks ago and so far my experience has been very positive. This netbook is solidly constructed and is ready to use out of the box.
It's a neat, small, well-built netbook that should satisfy basic needs like web browsing and emails. The NB505 is a nicely constructed netbook.
Something I could use for internet and email (while traveling), something I could watch Netflix on when I was in a room without a TV. So far I can do all of the above even though I'm working on the 1G memory card (the 2G is ordered). Power management gives me a good six hours of continuous use. If it stays this way, I will purchase the full version of the NSIS software as well when this trial version runs out. Overall extremely pleased with this unit so far! If you're looking for a small compact quality Notebook, Don't let this one get away! I love everything about this new computer. I also really like the case feeling: like some very soft rubbery cover, it looks nice and grips nice! Windows 7 Starter is really basic, but you can find programs, utilities and tips on the Internet to take care of the basic "missing features" like changing the background image, colors, sounds, re-size pictures, etc.
If you are using this netbook in a limited capacity, then Windows Starter would probably be something you could work around. I use this little machine for about four hours per day, so I simply needed to upgrade.
I've had this little netbook for a few weeks now, and overall I am very satisfied with it. I bought it for portability, and it certainly delivers on that point. I have had it for three weeks and it's everything I expected and wanted. I am typing on it right now! The computer feels very solid, has a nice rubbery top that doesn't fingerprint (not really apparent in the pictures) and a VERY nice keyboard that is better than lots of regular laptops! RAM size could be upgraded so we bought a 2 GB card for $15.00 (non-Toshiba brand from Amazon) which worked fine and sped it up even more. I also notice it does not give off as much heat as my Dell. I think this is a great choice if you are buying something for portability and simple functions. The Amazon description of the product indicates DDR2, which is what I purchased. After receiving the product, opening it to install the RAM, I was immediately annoyed to find that it required DDR3 RAM.
