Vision Quest

By Mark Allen

With a vision quest I find a great deal of individuals begin to receive immediate messages from nature and spirit about their intention for heading on the vision quest. For example if they begin to discover the scurrying of ants through a forest they might relate this to how they are presently living their existence. Or if they discover an eagle soaring over they may interpret that as needing much more ease and grace within their current life scenario.

The interpretation of these signs from nature and spirit are unique within the person and personally I discover common interpretations of these kind of signs are not as efficient as the general meaning people give to them.

This stage of becoming 'at one' with nature is a powerful, powerful period throughout the vision quest process. It's where the greatest insights into problems and difficulties come up. These insights arrive from beyond the rational and seemingly come straight from 'spirit'. Most often they happen spontaneously and straight from spirit.

Spirit is simply the force that guides life. We all have our personal true nature. And on your own for a number of days without distractions we access our authentic nature in nature. I call this 'alignment'. And we get to see what is the correct direction of action to naturally take concerning the intention we have set.

Following this stage of communicating directly with spirit, nature and our authentic nature the next phase of the vision quest would be to integrate the insights you receive. It is great to obtain the insights however the entire point with the vision quest procedure would be to align your life with that which you are meant to be doing in this life time.

The integration stage is about creating a step-by-step plan of action to do when you return to your regular existence following your vision quest. If you have received large insights that need an almost 180 degree shift within the way you're running your life then this phase may be quite difficult.

For example I used to operate as an Engineer but it was crystal clear on a vision quest I went on in the mountains of France this was like being a square peg inside a round hole and was not in alignment with what I am meant to be doing. It was also obvious this nature-based spirituality work was the route I am meant to be walking within this life-time.

The insight came quite suddenly nevertheless the challenge came from walking two paths at the same time until I brought my exterior life into alignment with the internal vision. It is this integration stage with the vision quest that will be probably the most difficult.

Many people choose to complete a vision quest at a transition period within their existence. The transition differs for nearly everyone however probably the most typical themes I encounter are relationship problems, life objective and path, well being concerns and merely connecting at a deeper degree with nature.
